Visiting Budapest

Visting Budapest: Photos, recap, and favorite spots

Oh hello there! Sorry for the lack of posts recently; I’ve been off adventuring.

I recently returned from a vacation with George to Budapest and Vienna. We spent about 5 days in each place, and today I’ll share some stories and my favorite spots from Budapest.

Visting Budapest: Photos, recap, and favorite spots

Overall impressions
Budapest is a really neat city. It definitely has the old, European look, with stone front facades and historic buildings everywhere. Almost everyone we met was very kind and polite. Most Hungarian people we encountered in the city spoke at least basic English, which is great, considering how difficult Hungarian is to learn.

Rectangular Photo Display

Rectangluar photo frame grouping -- a cohesive design with 5X7 photos

George and I have had very few personal photos on display. We hung up prints, paintings, and other DIY creations in our apartment, but have been missing pictures of our friends and family. It’s totally ridiculous, too, because I have so many framed photos of my past adventures, and we both have tons of great people in our lives.

Wall space is decreasing, so I picked out one empty wall that could house some of our personal photos. It’s in the kitchen across from a very large print of George’s first car. I didn’t want a single photo to be dwarfed next to the car print, so I decided to do a 2 by 2 grouping of frames.

Holiday Decoration Tour | my apartment

I have been very busy in the last few weeks preparing decorations for my apartment. I get a lot of pride and joy out of having a festive and fun place throughout December. And today I’m going to share that with you!

One of my favorite new decorations is evergreen roping that I put up. We have a large door frame that separates the living room from the “office” space. Hanging all along the inside edge is evergreen roping. I just used three cup hooks to attach it, and it provides a nice “frame” for the two rooms.

At the center of the holiday decorations is obviously our tree. George and I both grew up with live Christmas trees, so that was a given. We got the tree the day after Thanksgiving from a local tree farm, where we selected and cut our own. I always enjoy wandering the rows until we find the perfect tree, even if it’s only perfect in our eyes.

Engagement Photo Outtakes

George and I had fabulous engagement pictures taken by Katy of YTK Photography. If you haven’t seen the reveal, you should check that out here. I think she did a great job of capturing our personalities and getting genuine emotion.

Given her goofy subjects, I’m impressed that Katy captured so many “perfect” moments. George and I are silly people, and we make a lot of faces. Since Katy knew us well enough, she gave us some of the outtakes from our session. Here are the not-so-perfect moments.

Engagement Picture Reveal!

Shortly after George and I got engaged, my friend Katy offered to shoot our engagement pictures as a gift. This is a very generous offer from anyone, but Katy is a super talented (and busy!) photographer with her own business, YTK Photography. I’ve even taken some photography classes with her. Her talent and experience made the offer of a photo shoot something too amazing to pass up.

When preparing for the session, Katy suggested we come up with four different looks! We ended up only using two outfits for the session, but we spent a good amount of time selecting coordinating clothing. We obviously tried to stay on the same level of dressiness, but also tried to select common color schemes. As a funny aside, I am so type-A that George and I did a mini photo shoot in our apartment with each of our outfits before the actual engagement shoot. We sent those pictures to Katy so she could see our clothing in advance. Do you think we nailed it with outfits?
