Valentine’s Day Gift of Time Together

The gift of date nights out -- a DIY Valentine's Day book that gives the gift of time

You would think that having a blog would make me prepare for holidays in advance, but apparently that isn’t the case. I just finished George’s Valentine’s Day present, and I figured I would share it with you, in case you need a last minute idea.

Since we’re just past Christmas, and George has a birthday coming up, I shied away from buying another physical item. We have too much stuff already, and I really just want to spend more time together doing fun things. We love to go out to eat, but it can become expensive very quickly (which is not so great for our budget!). I decided that for this Valentine’s Day I would give the gift of time together in the form of date nights out at restaurants.

Since I now live hours away from where I grew up and from where I went to college, I have friends all over the US. It can be really hard to keep close with everyone, especially since I hate talking on the phone. The easiest way for me to show that I’m thinking of someone is to send mail. I absolutely love sending small care packages to my best buds, and birthdays are an extra special occasion to celebrate. Today I’m sharing a mini package that’s perfect to mail to friends and family that you can’t celebrate with because of distance. The best part is that I only spent money on one item (the candy) to fill the box!

Bunny Gift Bag for Easter

DIY Bunny Gift Bag for Easter -- a great alternative to an Easter basket

I live in a decent sized space, but apartment living can be tight. Since we don’t have much storage space, I try to manage my possessions and fight away any hoarding tendencies. Even though I love to decorate for holidays, I try to keep most of my stuff generic so I can use it for multiple occasions, or cheap/recycled that I don’t mind getting rid of it. I can’t image storing Easter baskets year after year, so I’ve come up with other solutions. Last year I used a Mason jar to present a cute candy surprise. This year I jazzed up a plain gift bag to be Easter ready.

3D Paper Cutout Letter Art

3D Cutout Letter Art: I love you more // a great first anniversay gift

The “battle” of who loves who more rages on in our household. I decided to throw down another gauntlet with this cutout letter art proclaiming that I love George more.

This craft is inspired by a project on How About Orange that used this same technique to display humorous pop song lyrics. I went another route with my love themed display.

First I started with my design. I chose the message “I love you more” and looked for a font that had letters with left aligned edges. This is a bit of a feat, but necessary to cut out all the letters in the same style and with the same attached side. I settled on Bahn Pro in all caps and made one small alteration to the letter “v” to make it more to my liking.

St. Patrick’s Day Rainbow Candy Jar

St. Patricks Day rainbow candy jar -- an easy gift idea

Based upon the number of blog projects I do, you’d think I would have a handle on upcoming holidays and have advanced plans for them. Not quite.

I just realized this past weekend that I still had some pink and red Valentine’s Day decorations up. It got me thinking about upcoming holidays and I realized St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. Obviously I had to do something beside drink beers to commemorate. I settled on a quick St. Patrick’s Day treat that fits perfectly inside a Mason Jar.
